Reintroducing 'Owning It' - what this is all about and how to join me on my next session
First access to my next two sustainable fashion office hours calls in May and June listed below.
On the basis that there are a lot of new people who have joined this newsletter in recent times, I wanted to say hi, welcome and thank you for being here. ‘Owning it’, with me, Rachel Arthur, is all about empowering people to work in the fast-paced and ever evolving world of sustainable fashion. It’s about enabling more of you to arrive here and indeed, own it, as well as then thrive within it.
I try to cover a variety of what’s happening in the industry (without being a news-focused outlet because a. I’ve done a lot of that in the past, and b. there are some others doing an incredible job of that already - pointing you to Brittany Sierra’s Sustainable Fashion Forum Substack for a weekly round-up particularly), but also how to find your way working in this complicated, purposeful, dynamic, demanding, inspiring, and altogether challenging professional (and personal) space.
I won’t show you job listings, nor will I profess to be anything in the way of an expert on career advice, but I will be open about what I think matters, what my experiences have been like, and where I can, connect you with others I am personally inspired by in this work. I’ll also share the odd update about things I’m working on that I care deeply about and hope will interest you.
Perhaps most crucially, the other thing this platform is about, is providing access to meet (virtually) in real life to chat it all through. For just about 18 months, I’ve been meeting small groups of people in open office hours sessions about sustainable fashion every month. See here for more detail on why and how this came about. Earlier this month, I hosted a small reunion (as pictured) to catch up with some of those who have been on calls with me before, and I cannot tell you how rewarding it was to hear of their progress and developments since, and to also enable them to share more with one another about ongoing challenges, concerns and considerations for the year ahead.
If you’re interested in joining one of these call in the future, the next two sessions are detailed out below.
As usual, there are only 8 slots available. It is first come, first served and only open to those who are students or within the first five years of their career. If you have been to one before, please now let others have a chance.
I look forward to meeting lots of you soon, and in the meantime, please do stay connected and interact with me here and/or on Linkedin (my tips for posting on Linkedin, which is really what brought all of this about, are also shared here).
