This is brilliant, Rachel!

Your support will make a world of difference to us wanting to entre the sector.

My academic background is a BA Fashion Design and an MPhil in Textile Conservation but I currently work in Quality Assurance for the Higher Education in the UK.

I want to transition to the textile and fashion sector but the biggest challenge for me (and many like me) is to gain the practical experience the sector demands.

People like me hear that we’re overly qualified (academically that is) but lack the practical experience of methodologies and processes required for the roles we are applying for - specially LCA, DPP and compliance.

It is hard to bridge that gap when you can’t get an opportunity to develop what can only be developed by practice.

I’m looking forward to engaging with Owning It as it seems a brilliant platform!

Thank you for sharing Cristina - I hear a lot of stories very similar to yours all the time, which was really central to the thinking behind this platform. Do please share what sort of content would be useful to you to hear about. Thank you again for sharing and wishing you best of wishes in the interim with it all.
