7 upcoming sustainable fashion events to join
Helping you show up with some recommendations for events, webinars and workshops taking place this June.
I get sent details about a lot of events, and per my last post, truly believe in the idea of ‘showing up’ as often as possible. Being based outside of London and with a young family, that is far more difficult for me these days than it was, but that doesn’t stop the rest of you from jumping in.
So below is a handful of suggestions for the rest of June that I will either be aiming to be at or will have FOMO about while the rest of you enjoy...
Two things to note: firstly, these lists are never going to be comprehensive - there is just too much happening on this topic worldwide these days (from community meet-ups and practical workshops, to conferences, panels and beyond) - rather they will merely represent some highlights I’ve seen and would recommend.
Secondly, they’re going to have a London slant by virtue of my location. Please do share other suggestions in the comments for more people to know about of course.
June 13-15, London: The Garden of Tomorrow Festival - Presented by House of Hackney, this is my big tip for the month. Referred to as a festival of ideas and action, it’s a series of workshops, talks and hands-on activities centred on regenerating nature. There will be the most incredible collective of participants including positive disruptors, activists, artists and organisations. (PAID)
June 18, virtual: Understanding sustainable fashion communication and consumption - student webinar - This one is actually hosted by me and is intended to provide those currently studying or teaching on a university course with a deep-dive into the UN Environment Programme principles on sustainable fashion communication. (FREE but only 10 spaces remaining)
June 22, London: Restore Nature Now march - Not strictly speaking a sustainable fashion event, but expect a pretty good showing from those in the space with this legal, peaceful, inclusive and family-friendly demonstration that is aiming to be the biggest gathering of people for nature and climate that the UK has ever seen. It is both a celebration of British nature and a protest calling for urgent political action on the nature and climate emergencies. (FREE)
June 22 and 29, London: Loanhood Swap Shops - I did one of these last year and it was incredible even just for the experience of what engaging with and enjoying fashion outside of consumption can look like. (FREE but you need to take some clothes to swap)
June 24, London: Green Conversations 2024: Sustainable Fashion - Any event with Prof Dilys Williams, Dr. Francesco Mazzarella and Prof. Mathilda Tham speaking will get my vote; a guaranteed learning opportunity. (FREE)
June 25-26, London: Future Fabrics Expo - This is the largest dedicated showcase for sourcing certified, sustainably and responsibly produced materials. It’s an absolute feast for being hands-on for a couple of days and of further value for the fantastic seminar line-up and networking opportunity it entails. This is also the flagship event for fashion and textiles during London Climate Action Week (June 22-30) this year. (PAID)
June 25-26, New York: Sustainable Apparel and Textiles Conference USA - Innovation Forum goes stateside with this two-day conference focused on transforming supply chains, raising labour standards and accelerating the transition to the circular economy. (PAID)
Hopefully see lots of you at some of these ahead. Do come and say hi if you spot me! Pop in the comments below what you’ll be at.
Thanks for sharing, Rachel! These all look great. You can view full event details for the Sustainable Apparel and Textiles Conference in New York here: https://www.innovationforum.co.uk/conferences/sustainable-apparel-and-textiles-conference-usa
